Menfi is a town by the sea to the West of Agrigento.
Its economy is based mainly on agriculture and olive oil and wine represent its major products.
There live 13000 people
In 1239 the Emperor Frederick II Hohenstaufen wanted this land to be colonized and ordered the construction of a watch tower, which is even today the most important monument of the town.
In 1968 during the earthquake which occurred in the Belice Valley , Menfi was razed down to the ground.
SAINT JOSEPH FEAST takes place in August and it’s the time of the year when they have a horse race which they call Palio Millusiano
INYCON FESTIVAL It’s a Fish and wine festival and its name comes from a nearby ancient Greek town which in the past was famous for its wine. This festival takes place at the beginning of July and it’s one of the most important Italian fairs dedicated to wine.
The tower built by Frederick II Hohenstaufen was destroyed during the earthquake in 1968 and it ha been reconstructed according to the original plan.
