Montallegro is a small town in the province area of Agrigento on the way to Trapani and not far from the sea.
There live 3800 people The original village was founded in 1619 on a high spot for defensive reasons by the Gioieni family relatives of the French Anjou.
Around 1830 its inhabitants moved to the bottom of the hill because of lack of water. Olives and olive oil are the main local products. Unemployment has compelled many inhabitants to emigrate.
A live Nativity scene is set in the old town at Christmas time and for the Epiphany.
